Hsiao-Mei Hsieh is an Associate Professor of Drama and Theatre and Director of the Social Innovation Center at National Taiwan University (NTU), where she also leads the Learning Facilitation Division at the Center for Teaching and Learning Development. She received her Ph.D. in Performance Studies from Northwestern University.
During her tenure as Chair of the Department of Drama and Theatre (2018–2024), she fostered interdisciplinary collaborations. Her research interests include contemporary Taiwanese theatre, cross-cultural theatre, Asian American theatre, postcolonial discourse, and technologically mediated performance.
Dr. Hsieh has led several major interdisciplinary initiatives, including the Ministry of Education's Advanced Display Technology Project and the Ministry of Culture's 5G Arts Application Project. She is currently a Co-Principal Investigator for an NSTC (National Science and Technology Council) Humanities-IC Innovation Project, exploring the synergy between cultural content and semiconductor-driven technologies.
Beyond her research, Dr. Hsieh is a consultant and juror for major institutions, including the National Theater & Concert Hall (NTCH) and the National Culture and Arts Foundation (NCAF), and also contributes her expertise to the National Development Fund.
